Welcome to the first edition of Upmarket Uncovered Newsletter for 2009.

We've taken a short break to recharge our batteries and now we are full of energy and excitement to organise more Perth Upmarket Events for you.

At the March Market we will be launching our behind the scenes Inspired Workshops where you can learn more about the secrets to the design and making of some of your favourite products.  Many of you have told us how intrigued and inspired you are about what you see and buy at the markets so we have organised a series of workshops which will run on market day for you to find out more.  Places are limited so book now!

Tamara Harrison Design

It all started 7 years ago when Tamara received a large antique tin filled with her late grandmothers buttons, in full creative mode she started to crochet them into necklaces with other treasured bits, this way she could be reminded of her grandmother every time she wore them.
 
Tamara says 'after I made one in every colour for myself, I realised how much I love the process of concept, design and construction and with people stopping me in the street, it was a natural progression to start selling my designs.'   The range has now grown to include clips, earrings, bracelets, neckpieces and decorative objects for the home with Tamara making many parts by hand, using recycled components and unique construction methods.

Being a lecturer in Floristry most of her inspiration comes from the beautiful forms in nature, "I am very drawn to sticks and branches' she says, 'modern floristry is very much an art form with so many interesting techniques such as pinning, binding, random weaving and so on and this inspires me to try new methods of construction to use in jewellery.' This background in floristry gives Tamara's work a distinct look which makes her pieces stand out from the rest.
 
Tamara finds the Perth Upmarket to be just the right venue to showcase her amazing designs with clients contacting her well after the event to make special one off pieces.

Toddler Be Good

Direct from the imagination of mother, teacher and author Lisa Driehuis - the Toddler Be Good series is designed to encourage toddlers to do a variety of things with-out us having to nag!
 
The idea for the series came to Lisa when she was having difficulty finding a book she felt was simple, positive and encouraging to assist her daughter Pearl in toilet training and going to bed. "The books I found tended to focus on an adult figure 'telling' a child to do something that the child does not want to do. I thought why put into impressionable young heads that these things are bad and that they shouldn't want to do them?" Lisa said.
 
So a year and a half later the series which combines books, puppets and reward charts is finally ready to take on the tots in a fun and positive way. Lisa explains, "My personal journey to create the series has involved a lot of late nights working till the wee hours after putting my two toddlers to bed. But as I am sure any one following a passion or dream will attest to it has been worth every single minute of missed sleep!"
