Music/Song/Rhyme

1. Round and round the garden.
Trace finger in a circle on child then make steps with fingers leading to arm pits. "Round and round the garden like a teddy bear, one step, two step, tickle him under there." Can be done on hand, back or tummy.

2. This little piggy.
Grab each finger of the child from thumb through to pinkie then travel up arm to underarm to tickle. "This little piggy went to market, this little piggy stayed home, this little piggy had roast beef, this little piggy had none, and this little piggy went wee… wee… wee…all the way home."

For the older toddler…

3. Open Shut Them
Follow the actions with your hands, as the toddler becomes more familiar with song they may join in.
"Open shut them, open shut them, give a little clap. Open shut them, open shut them, lay them on your lap. Creep them crawl them, creep them crawl them, right up to your chin. Open wide your little mouth, but do not let them in. Shake them, shake them, shake them, shake them, shake them just like this. Roll them, roll them, roll them, roll them, blow a little kiss"

4. Teddy Bear Teddy bear
Do actions with toddler. "Teddy bear teddy bear turn around, teddy bear, teddy bear touch the ground. Teddy bear, teddy bear touch your nose, teddy bear teddy bear dance on your toes. Teddy bear, teddy bear touch your head, teddy bear teddy bear go to bed, teddy bear teddy bear wake up now. Teddy bear, teddy bear take a bow"

5. Make musical instruments.
Upside down plastic bowls with some wooden spoons make great drums. Fill empty drink bottles of different sizes with rice and or pasta to make shakers (tape around lid to stop toddler unscrewing lid).

6. Little Peter Rabbit.
Do you remember this old classic..."Little Peter rabbit had a fly apon his nose. Little Peter rabbit had a fly apon his nose. Little Peter rabbit had a fly apon his nose, and he swished it and he swoshed and it flew away". For the actions you make rabbit ears then touch your nose...then swat fly and interlockthumbs and flap fingers to 'fly away'. Anyway a great variation that is fantastic for a giggle wih your toddler is to change the fly to another animal and the nose to another body part. My daughter has fits of laughter when we sing about Little Peter rabbit having an elephant on his ear, or a monkey on his back! We change the actions to suit the animal as well.
